Granular chlorine is widely available and formally accepted by public health regulators worldwide for chlorination processes such as drinking water disinfection or for swimming pool chlorination.

Granular chlorine is also a very effective way to shock a green pool. But keep in mind that it will also add Calcium to your pool, and if your Calcium level is already a bit high it can result in permanently cloudy water and promote scaling at the water line and in equipment.

The main advantages of dry granular (solid) chlorine over liquid chlorine are:
• Its Free Available Chlorine or FAC concentration is 5 to 7 times higher than in liquid sodium hypochlorite solution. For example, granular calcium hypochlorite is commonly available with 65% or 70% chlorine concentration.

• The FAC concentration in granular chlorine remains stable over long storage periods.

• The handling during transportation and storage of granular chlorine is much easier, cleaner and safer than the handling of liquid chemicals.

WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS:

To disinfect service water a 1% solution of Granular Chlorine or Calcium Hypochlorite should be mixed into reservoir water constantly so as to maintain the residual available Chlorine at the range of 0.1 to 0.2 ppm at the terminal faucets.

Algae control in reservoir can be accomplished by keeping the residual chlorine in the water at 0.2 to 0.5 ppm using either Granular or Tablet form.

SEWAGE TREATMENT:

Granular Chlorine or Calcium Hypochlorite is effective for sanitary disposal of waste, odor control, sugar refineries, breweries, B.O.D. (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) reduction and removal of poisonous matters in various industries. The actual requirement of Calcium Hypochlorite may be obtained by experimentation.

FOOD INDUSTRIES:

To disinfect meat processing plants, dairy plants, canneries, soft drink and other bottling plants, a rinse with 0.5% Calcium Hypochlorite solution is recommended.

To control bacterial contamination and disinfect water for soft drinks, the water may be disinfected with Calcium Hypochlorite solution, keeping the residual chlorine at the range of 10 ppm. Fresh fruits and vegetables can be cleaned by dipping them in 100 ppm Calcium Hypochlorite solution for 10 minutes.

BLEACHING OF COTTON OR LINEN:

General Laundry Use:

The deodorization, disinfection, and bleaching of baby diaper and other contaminated white cottons and linen maybe effectively accomplished by the application of 0.1-0.3% Calcium Hypochlorite solution. The application of Calcium Hypochlorite solution to silk and woolen materials must be avoided.

General Sanitation:

For best results in the disinfection of public health facilities such as floors, walls, drains and toilets of hospitals, schools, stations, etc., a 500 to 1,000 ppm solution (1 oz. of Calcium Hypochlorite dissolved in 5 to 10 gallons of water) is recommended after cleaning.

Household and Personal Use:

To deodorize, disinfect and bleach previously cleaned food preparation surfaces, rinse with 500 ppm Calcium Hypochlorite solution (1 oz. of Calcium Hypochlorite dissolved in 10 gallons of water) is recommended.
