This module works the same with the DS1307 version only that it is slightly much precise with its real time clock output because of its internal IC design. It works with i2c protocol and this chip is backed with well written Arduino libraries. Check out some example on the tutorial section below.
DS3231 is a low-cost, extremely accurate I2C Real-Time Clock (RTC), with an integrated temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) and crystal. The device incorporates a battery back-up that when main power is disconnected it maintains accurate timekeeping. Inside the chip is an integrated oscillator to improve long-term accuracy of the device. The DS3231 is widely used in commercial and industrial application for its reliability.
