MIX LITHOPS SEEDS

Lithops, known as a Living Stone with daisy-like flowers in various shades, colours and textures. They can withstand temperature of up to 120F. They could be grown either ways by division or from seeds.

How to grow from seeds:
1. Lithops need a cactus mix or potting soil with some sand incorporated or you can make your own. Mix equal parts of potting mix and perlite. Moisten the mix with water and fill a pot with drainage holes up to 1/2” from the top.
2. Sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the soil and cover them with a 1/8” layer of fine sand or crushed rock. Do not cover with too much soil or the seeds may not germinate.
3. Fill a spray bottle with water and mist the soil. Keep the soil moist throughout the germination period. Cover the pot with a plastic wrap to help the soil retain moisture.
4. Place the pot in a warm, sunlit area with a temperature of 65-80F. Germination in 2-12weeks. But don’t expect for all the seeds to germinate at the same time. Some seeds may take as long as a year to germinate. Lithops seeds can remain viable for months since moisture is infrequent in their native habitat.
5. Remove the plastic wrap once the seeds germinate. Transplant the seedlings to individual pots when they start to crowd each other and are big enough to handle. Place the pot in a sunny location. They need 5hours of sunlight per day.
Tip: avoid watering the seedlings as they grow. Water only once the top 1/4” of soil is dry. After 3months, allow the soil to dry completely between watering.
