The original english daisy is the wild flower daisy that is often seen growing in lawns throughout the world. They are not only an ornamental plant but a culinary herb, as well. Being low-growing biennials, they are excellent ground covers, border plants or for the rock garden and for growing in pots, containers or tubs. English daisies grow best from seeds which can be started both indoors and outdoors, if weather permits. The seeds require no pretreatment and very little hands-on care to sprout successfully. However, they must be kept consistently moist to ensure a positive outcome.
Easy to grow on seeds... outdoor but light shade...
Germinating the seed:
1. Prepare a planter for each english daisy seed. Fill a 3" starter pots with standard potting soil. Leave the top 1/4" of each pot empty, so they don't overflow when watered. Drizzle water into each pot to settle the soil. Let the water soak in for 10-15minutes before sowing the seeds.
2. Sow one english daisy seed in each starter pot. Place the seed on the surface of the soil. Press it gently onto the soil to anchor it. Do not cover the seed with soil, as it needs light to germinate. Mist the seeds with a spray bottle to moisten it.
3. Move the pots to a brighter area with plenty of indirect sunlight. Cover the pots with a clear plastic wrap.
4. Lift the plastic wrap everyday to check moisture level in the soil. Water the seeds daily with a spray bottle whenever the soil feels barely damp when pressed. Water until the top 1/2" is moderately moist but not soggy.
5. Watch for germination in 10-21days. Remove the plastic wrap once seedlings emerge. Decrease irrigation so that the top 1/4" of soil dries out between waterings.
6. Acclimatize them to outside temperature for 2weeks before transplanting them to your garden.
