DRAGON FRUIT SEEDS MIX COLOUR

Dragon fruit or red pitaya, the most prized of all the cactus fruits, is a red fruit with green spikes. They grow in dry, tropical or sub-tropical climate where annual rainfall ranges from 20-50” per year. In wet, tropical zones, plants may grow well but, sometimes,
have problems setting fruit reliably. These plants are not usually too picky as to soil type, but because of their epiphytic nature, it is recommended to grow them in soil that is supplemented with amounts of organic material. In fact, the plant had been grown successfully in sandy soils. Shade is sometimes provided in hot areas.
How to grow the seed:
- place the seeds onto a glass or ceramic plate. Roll out a line of double-ply toilet tissue onto a flat work surface and moisten. Pick up the single small seeds and deposit onto the toilet paper in even rows with a 1/8” gap between each seed. Let the seeds dry onto the tissue paper so it can be moved intact without the seeds falling or the moist tissue paper ripping.
- lay the tissue paper with the seeds onto the top of a planting tray or bed filled with moist sterile potting mix. Sprinkle a light layer of soil over the seeds no more than 1/4” thick. Water the soil lightly and add soil over the seeds if they become exposed. Keep the planted seeds moist at all times throughout germination.
- place the tray in a location where the soil temperature will remain consistent at 70-85F. Cool soil will delay seed germination time and may, also, inhibit germination completely.
Estimated germination time under optimal conditions: 1-4weeks, though occasionally up to 8weeks

NOTE: dragon fruit seeds are small and very fragile, so handle with care. Take care in watering the soil.
