WARTS CAUTERY

Warts are small, benign (harmless) growths caused by a viral infection. They occur on the skin or the mucous membrane. The viruses that cause warts are members of the human papilloma virus (HPV) family. Warts can be transmitted from one person to another and they can travel from one part of the body to another.
Electrocautery is a way to remove a wart using heat from electricity. Electrocautery makes use of light electric currents that apply heat to the surface of the skin to burn away unwanted growth. Electrocautery can be done on the hands, feet, face, and even the genital area.

Usually the wart or growth will go away after one electrocautery treatment. Electrocautery usually leaves behind a wound which may take 1 to 6 weeks to heal. The time it takes the wound to heal depends on the size of the wart. Bigger warts take longer to heal. But the wart may need to be treated more than once.

A topical anesthetic is applied to the area of treatment which takes about 30 to 45 minutes to numb the skin. The procedure can take anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes depending on the number of areas to be treated.

Before and after a warts cautery procedure. Scabs will form over the warts as they heal which takes about 1 to 2 weeks. These scabs should not be picked at because they will fall away on their own in about 5 to 7 days after the treatment
